THE LICENSING MEETING.

The adjourned licensing meeting was held at noon to-day. Mr Maaassey called the attention of the Commissioners to the fact that in the existing state of the law a licensed bottle-holder was entitled to the same privileges as holders of wholesale licenses, so that the former did not require a Wholesale license, provided he did not sell less than one bottle secured In a certain way. The Bench agreed wich Mr Macassey. Applications, for re-hearlngs were ordered to stand over till Tuesday next at noon; and their Worships agreed to defer a decision on the railway refreshment rooms’ applications until after Mr Macassey made an application for a rehearing of the application for a license for the Queen’s Theatre. The greater part of the day was occupied with the adjourned application of J. A. C. Richmond. Evidence was given on both sides. The Bench held that there was no necessity for the house, and if there had been a doubt in their minds it would have been removed by the injurious effect which it had been proved this hotel had. License refused. E. Machin’s application was granted with reluctance. A license was granted to D. Melican, Rising Sun, Walker street; R. W. Shcpperd, Exchange Hotel. W. P. Woodifield, Bay View; M. Cox, Freemasons’; B. Perry, Alhambra ; John Forster, Artillery, were refused. James Watson, Royal ; P. O’Brien, Munster Arms; A. Hornby Caledonian, were granted. Our report is held over.
