To Andrew Merger, Ebq., Mayor of Dunedin, DEAR SIR, —We, the undersigned Ratepayers, desire respectfully to ask you to convene a public meeting of the Citizens at an early date, in order to consider ; Firstly,—The necessity of petitioning Parliß>Di6iiii to curtail and limit th.6 compulsory rating powers, &0., of the Dunedin Waterworks Company; also, for taking steps to prevent the Company from obtaining any further powers, as sought by the private Bill which at the present time the Company is promoting, and purposes shall be passed at the ensuing Session of the General Assembly of New Zealand. Secondly,—To consider the necessity of urgmg the City Corporation of Dunedin to proceed forthwith with the construction of new Waterworks for the effective and permanent supply of the City of Dunedin and its neighborhood with water, it being an admitted' fact that the existing works of the Dunedin Waterworks Company are altogether inadequate to meet the wants of the largely increasing population of the City.
