(PevOmeo.) . London, April 13. The Australian mails for February via Brindisi were delivered to-day.
April 14. In the House of Commons, Mr Lowther, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, in replying to Mr Macarthur, said he had received no official confirmation of the cession of Fiji. He promised the production of all papers relating to Fijian affairs, and said the Commissioners* report would receive the attention of the Government.
_ . . April 15. There is an agricultural lock-out m Somersetshire, where the farmers have refused to abide by arbitration, and the laborers are emigrating. In the North, the disputes were compromised, except in South Staffordshire, where matters are unsettled.
_ April 16. In the House of Commons Sir Stafford Northoote introduced the Budget in a speech of soma length. He stated that the revenue for 1873 was L 77.380,000 j and the expenditure L 76,500,000, including the amount of the Geneva award and expenses of the Ashantee expedition. The revenue for 1874 is estimated at L 78,000,000, and the expenditure, at L 72,500,000. It, is proposed to take Id off the income tax,, and to abolish sugar duties; also, to provide for the reduction of the National debt by terminable annuities to L 450,000. There would also be a contribution of L1,000,000J towards the reduction of local taxation. After providing for the above, a surplus of L 462,000 will still remain. By a terrible explosion in a colliery at Dunstmfield, fifty-one persons were killed. The Runnymcde put into Pernambuco and discharged part of her cargo, which was damaged by fire. Souse duties are to be abolished. The Budget (is generally approved of.
Pr Livingstone s funeral to-day at Westminster was densely crowded. Dean Stanley officiated,land there was a full musical service. The Queen sent a beautiful wreath to be placed u? c „® n * The principal pall-bearers were tl. M. Stanley, Dr Wainwright and Livingstone s two sons. Several foreign Ministers, the Lord Mayor anil Corporation, and a number of the Anglo-Indian notabilities and leading geowere present. Sir Wm. Fergusson, M.D., previously made an autopsy of the remains.
An appeal was granted in the Mount-Morris case.
