Commercial.
The amount of revenue received t the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption this day, was L 590 15s 7d. Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn, and Co. today sold, on behalf of Mr W. 0. Ball, Liquidator of the Submarine Gold Mining Co., the koat Platypus, with appliances, to Mr 0. S Reeves, for the sum of L4OO. During the week general business has been are scarce, although more are offering than for some time past, and rates are stiU extreme. On Tuesday a sale of sugars, ex Hopeful, from Mauritius, was held by Messrs Wmtelaw and Co. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and a large portion of the cargo was T ® eat White realized L 37 tok ire j 128 6d ’ aecond quality, L35256d to L 35 7b 6d, grey crystals, L 34 2s 6d to L345s : finest yellows were held for higher prices, and good browns were sold at L 32 5s to L 32105. In spirits not much change has taken place. The stock of geneva on hand is light, and prices have an upward tendency. Dunville’s whisky is m very short supply, and is not likely to be lower. Brandy continues firm at 31s. Hennessey’s case, 9s 6d to 9s 9d; Otards, 8s 6d and Butter continues scarce, and is still rising in value. Good parcels are firm at Is Id Cheese commands 7Jd to Bd. Oornsacks are lower, and may be purchased at 13s 6 i. Candles we in brisk demand, and lid is now asked Kerosene unaltered.
SHARE MARKET.
Mr W. Hooper reports “T'ae share market has been less active this week. The speculative dement Beems to have expended itself to a J? 16 pr ® sent shareholders in different stocks rather to hold their shares fdr investment than for speculative purposes National Insurance have made a slight rise—present price 33s 6d, firmly held, and a further anticipated. In the early part of the week standard Insurance shares rose to 18s; but d ®, cl £ed to 17s, with a slacker demand. South Britishi about same as last week, Sfv. Sfr 1 14b - Mos g iel Woollen Co. s still at a shade below par, not in demand ; J^ n ° apparent rea son why this should “ the prospects of the Company are good, and, with good management, wUI doubtless nse in value. Shotovers are still unsaleable, notwithstanding good reports of the Company s operations; present price for which they are held, 225. Greymoutb Coal Mining Co.’s shares, 10s ; .some have been offered at less than "“ B ,i uo buyers, although the director’s report published on the 21st inst., is a very encouraging one. Heart of Oak Quartz Mining: sellers 57s 6d, no buyers. Elizabeth Quartz Mining, Garrick Hanger sellers L2 10s 6d, no buyers. The prospectus of the Waipori Quartz Mining Co. is issued, and, judging from its contents, the undertaking should be a good one. Arrow Hiver Goldmining unsaleable.”
