THE CITY ELECTION.
Mr Wales addressed a meeting of the elec* tors last night at the Mission-house, Bussell street—Mr K. Eamsay in the chair, Mr Miller proposed and Mr Henderson seconded “That Mr Wales is the most fit and proper person to represent this constituency,” which was carried unanimously. Mr Wales addressed another meet* ing at Cotter’s Hotel, Great King street —Mr Peter Gibson in the chair. Several questions were put in refc. rence to tfid immigration question and the liquor traffic, and answered to the satisfac tion of the meeting. A vote of confidence was proposed by Mr seconded by Mr Mitchell, and carried uoanimomly. A strong sub-committee was found to secure bis return.
Mr Bartpn addressed a crowded meeting of the electors at the Masonic Hall last evening, his Worship the Mayor being in the chair. The candidate confined his re-, marks almost so ely to the Waterworks question j but also made reference to the other items of interest to the electors. At its conclusion Mr James Black moved, and Mr John Barnes seconded an entire vote of confidence in the candidate, which was earned unanimously.
