The Harbor Company’s p.s. Samson arrived this morning from Oamaru, and steamed alongside the ship Carnatic to discharge 438 bags of grain and 10 casks of tallow. ■■ The cutter Jamo down from Dunedin yesterday and discharged coal into the steam dredge. The s.B. Wanganui, which was compelled to > return yesterday on account of the heavy S, W. ’ gale, sailed again for the Bluff this morning,the gale having moderated. The s.B. Lady of the Lake, after another attempt to prbceed to the Molyneux, was compelled to return again yesterday afternoon. The ship Himalaya will probably be removed from the quarantine ground to a berth off the railway pier, where she will discharge her cargo. The barque Hopeful will be removed to the railway pier this evening to discharge her Dunedin portion of sugar from the Mauritius. The ship Dalham Tower, now in the Graving Dock, is to have her bottom coated with antifonling composition. The p.s Comerang sailed last evening for Timaru for another cargo of grain for the ship Warwick. The Returns of Immigration and Emigration at the Port of Dunedin during the quarter •nding the 31st March, 1874, show the following results From the United Kingdom : Adults—males, 637; females, 494 ; children—males, 263; females, 268; being a total of 900 males and 762 females. From the Australian Colonies : Adults—males, 260 ; females, 146; children—males, 34; females, 34 ; totalmales, 294 j females, 180. From Hong Kong : males, 602. The total numbers of immigrants are: Adults—males, 1,499; females, 640:
children—males, 297; females, 302; or a complete total of 2,260 souls. The emigration for the same period -was as follows:—To the United Kingdom: Adults—males, 54; females, 36; children—males, 12; females. 16, total--66 males, 42 females. For the Australian Colonies ; Adults—males, 146; females, 66; children—males, 12; females, 11; totals—males, 158; females, 67. To Hong Kong : Males, 142. To the United States of America: Males, 1; females, 3. Complete totals: Adults—males, 342; females, 851; children—males, 24; females, 27. Total, 478; giving thus a net increase to the population of 1,882 for the three months.
