TIMARCT MEETING. There was a large attendance for these races. The weather was fine. The first race, the Hurdles, had an entry of fire, but of these only three came to the post. Alice Grey was the favorite, and won easily in the end, Ivanh e running round the fifth hurdle. The Maiden Plate was a gift to Theodore. The Timaru Cup was a failure. Everybody expected a good race, but old Tam had it all his own way, and won in a canter, Templeton being out of it all through. The District Handicap was a hollow affair, Exile having it all his own way, though Madras, who was far from fit, ran a good, plucky horse. Hurdle Eace, L4O; two miles, over eight flights of hurdles. Mr J. Lunn’s Alice Grey, lOat 111b (Lunn) 1 „ Martelli’s Ivanhoe, 12st 11b ... (Edge) 2 ~ Cramond’s Alma, 12st lib... (M‘Bratney) 0 Alee Grey and Ivanhoe led to the first
hurdle, which both took abreast, Alma being out of it. This order was maintained till the fifth jump, when Ivanhoe ran round the hurdle, leaving the Grey to finish as she liked. Alma, baulking at the last hurdle, let Ivanhoe in second. Time : drain. 19sec. Maiden Plate, L4O; 1£ miles. Mr Barton’s Theodore - - (Sellers) 1 Mr King’s Prioress - - (Bebbington) 2 Mr Paterson’s Poor Boy - - (Williams) 0 Mr Fulton’s New chum - (0. Hudson) 0 A good start. After 100 yards had been traversed, Theodore went to the front, and though Prioress tried hard to overhaul him* won easily by a dozen lengths, Poor Boy and New-ohum being out of it. Time: 3min 2aec. Timarcj C dp, 160 ; distance, 2$ miles. Mr D. O’Brien’s Tamburini, 9st 91b (Mason) 1 Mr Delamaiu’s Templeton, 7st 131b (Richards) 2 Templeton had a slight lead into the straight. After passing the stand the first time Old Tam went to the front and led the
rest of the way, winning easily by three lengths. Time ; 4mi;. 17.sec, Timaro i>istriot Handicap, L3O; 2 miles. Mr Bebbington’s Exile - - (owner) 1 Mr Jonas’s Madras - - (M'Bratnav) 2 Mr Barton’s (Theodore - . . ... 3 Mr Hoakins’s No Gentleman . . 0 Mr Fulton’s New-chum . . . , q
After some delay at the post, Exile, attended by Th odore. led down the straight. Madras and No Gentleman. lying off. After hilf-a*mile Madras crept wp and passed Theo lore, bat could not reach Exile, who won in a canter; Theodore beating No Gentleman by a neck for third, New-ohum nowhere.
