Drunkenness. —James Higblan and Tbos. Muir were each fined ss, with the option of 48 hours’ imprisonment. Contempt of Court. George Clayton, contractor, not appearing in answer to a charge ®f neglecting to keep sufficient light burning on certain building material on the night of the 7tb inst, a warrant was ordered to be issued for his apprehension.—There being two other like offences against the same person, on the nights of the Bth and 9th inst, and the defendant failing to appear, his Worship decided to proceed in his absence, and fined him L 5 and costs - a punishment he would remember. His Worship directed the police, in future cases of a like nature, only to take a summons out for the first offence, and state every day’s continuous default, when a penalty not exceeding LiO, and 40s for every day’s default would be imposed.
