THE THISTLE NUISANCE.

To the Editor. —To all those who cultivate for pleasure or profit, a perusal of your to-night’s leader will operate as the balm of Gilead ; it speaks as it wore to one’s slovenly neighbors. Your remarks will not only apply to farmers, but will apply with equal justice to amatuer and professional gardeners. One has only to consider the constant injury a person with a thistle nursery inflicts upon his neighbor who keeps a nursery of the legitimate type, and then he must at once agree with your remarks that “ it is obviously the duty of any legislature to provide means whereby a man shall be compelled to do on his property what is necessary to prevent his neighbor suffering damage. ” The thistle will reproduce itself twice in any favorable season, so that in becomes next to impossible to calculate the amount of injury even a small pl-ce of land allowed to run to seed will inflict upon a surrounding district. {Should a time arrive when "a premium will be offered for the distribution of thistle down, my neighbor will bo in a position to retire on a good annuity. In the meantime he appears to profit little by his slovenliness, as the thistle and sorrel are destroying the majority of his fruit bushes, which is the only consolation I have in the absence of any legal recourse.—l am, Ac., Thistle. William street, April 19.
