' , , , Wellington, April 13. ■ A telegram has been received from the Agent-General, dated April 2, announcing as despatched for the Colony during March the following vessels, with immigrants .-—The •Buckingham, Hindostan, Caroline, and Carlsruhe?,for Otago, with 1,500 souls; the NorthCity of Dunedin, and Stonehouse. for Lyttelton, with 1,320 souls; the Peeress (name of place not decipherable, but supposed to be Timaru), with 2fo souls; the Wishart and yueen of Nations, for 'Auckland, with 630 souls: the Waikato, for Wellington, with 370 souls; and the Halcione, for Napier, with 310 8 ? j ’ 0^,7. a plant shipped in these vessels includes 2,820 tons of rails and fastenings, seventeen carnages, four brakes, four horse-boxes, two trucks, 1 steam crane, twenty-five sets of waggon irons.two engines, and 150 tarpaulins, Ihe Hutt Railway will be opened to-morrow, | without any demonstration. The Government has been reluctantly compelled to adopt this course, owing to the quantity of rolling stock on the line being so limited as to make it impossible to convey any large number of persons. r The whole of the Woodlark’s immigrants sent to Wanganui have obtained employment immediately, tat satisfactory rates. the Good Templar agitation and canvassing going on to close the publionouses lately, up petitions were lodged yesterday, which was the last day for their being handed into Court. 6 __The conference between the Council of the ■Wew Zealand Umversity and deputations from the Otago Umversity and Canterbury College, ocoumed all yesterday’s sitting. Auckland, April 13. The returns'' Franklyn election, though incomplete, leave little doubt-as to the return of Mr Joseph May. The ‘Cross’ deprecates the Governor’s visit to Waikato, unless Mr M'Lean is present.
