THE REFERENCE LIBRARY.
The Committee, having accepted the resolutions as to terms of admission to the library passed at the preliminary meeting of March 24, 1872, recommended the adoption of the following draft regulations ; DRAFT REGULATIONS. L All persons using the library shall conform to the regulations of the library, and to such directions as they may receive from the librarian.
2. The library shall be open fire days in. the week, between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 6 p.ra. to 10 p.m., except when it is closed for purposes of inspection, as provided by Regulation 3.
, 3. The library shall be closed for ftwo days after each quarter-day, for the purpose' of enabling the librarian to inspect the books. ‘ 4. During the hours in which the library is open, any person entitled to the use of the library may be admitted by the librarian for the purpose of consulting the books. 5. No book shall be removed from the shelves except by the librarian, or under his direction. 6. No book shall be taken out of the library except by members of the University and such other persons; entitled to the use of the library as shall obtain a special order for that purpose, as provided by Regulation 7. 7. Any person entitled to the use of the library who, in any special instance, is desirous of taking any work out of the library, to assist him m pursuing any particular branch of study, and who shall satisfy the Library Committee that it is desirable that such work should be taken out of the library, may'obtain a special °i'der for that purpose, signed by the Chairman of the Library Committee. 8. The titles of all works taken out of the bbrary under Regulations 6 and 7, together with the dates of their removal and return, and the names and addresses of the persons taking them out, shall be entered by the librarian in • book to be kept for that purpose. 9. All books required for general use shall be entered in the catalogue as books of referenceand such books shall not be taken out of the library except by the Professors for the purpose of using them in their lecture rooms. _ 10. All books taken out of the library under Regulations 6 and 7 shall be returned to the library on or before the quarter day next following, or at any time upon the delivery of a notice from the librarian that such books are required for general use; and any person detainingauy book beyond a quarter-day or after the delivery of such notice shall pay to the libranan a fine of Is each day for every book so detamed until it is returned. a quarter-days shall be January 25.
