UNIVERSITY REFERENCE LIBRARY.

A public meeting of the subscribers to the University Reference Library, was held at the Provincial Chambers to-day. Mr (>. E. Barton was called to the chair. The report of the Committee appointed to draw up rules and regulations was read and adopted as follows : Your Committee having met on several occasions in conference with members of the University, beg to report as follows : 1. Receipts.—That up to this date the sum of L 733 4s has been received by way of subscriptions, and the sum of LSOO as a grant from the Provincial Government, making a total of L 1,233 4s. In addition to this contribution, the amount of Ll7O 9s remains to be collected. 2. Disbursements. There has been remitted Home for books the sum of L 1.033 14s; expended in advertising subscription lists, Ll7 10s ; premiums on remittances, &c., L 3 18s 6d; stationery, 17s ; total, L 1,055 19s 6d, leaving a balance at present to the credit of the Library funds of L 177 4s 6d. 3. Books Ordered.—The value of the Books already ordered by the Committee is upwards of L 1.200 or LI,300; the cost of those received, and now on the shelves of the Library, exceeding LI,GOO. Ou the motion of Mr J. S. Webb, seconded by Mr George Bell, the following resolution was adopted:— That this meeting adopts the Report of the General Committee, and approves of the Rules therein recommended, and hereby instructs the Committee to hand over the books already purchased and ordered to the Council and professors of the University, subject to their acceptance of the said Rules and Resolution 3,‘ of 4th March, 1874, and -that the General .-Committee be empowered to consent to such modification of Rule 2, if required, as they may, after consultation with the Council and professors, find to be desirable. The late hour at which the meeting was held, renders it necessary tu hold over the rules until to morrow.
