Wellington, April 4. The directors of the New Zealand Steam Company have under their consideration the question of placing one of their fleet in the xTiji and Auckland trade. The company has applied to Government for compensation for the detention of the steamer Phoebe in quarantine at Lyttelton wiith immigrants, but the application was refused. The Hey. Hf. S. Smalley, a Wesleyan minister, was presented with 'fifty ' guineas qnd a handsome Bible, as a farewell gift, on the occasion of his moving to Napier, by the Wesleyan Young Mon’s Improvement Society.
T xr. Aprils. In a N.W. gale during the night, the Malay while unloading coal, dragged her anchors and went ashore, but was not damaged.
Ihe barque Camille, which was loafed, also broke from her moorings and went ashore alongside the Malay, in Oriental Bay. Both vessels broke their chains, and it is said that the precaution of dropping an anchor was not taken. No damage was done, and both vessels are expected to be got off with the first change of wind. They are lying on a soft bank.
. Queenstown, April 6. .. dhe skipper’s correspondent of the ‘ Wakatip Mail writes that the river continues at a favorable level for claimholders, who are pushing on their works. The Hibernian claim, below Grace’s terrace, reckon on a rich find, and have the most substantial machineiy on the river. The Shotover Terrace Company have not yet t completed their alterations. Napier, April 6. Mr Braithwaite’s run of 2,600 acres, about eight miles from Port, was sold to Mr Maney f°r LlO per acre; stock at valuation. Gisborne advices state that the Petroleum Company’s engine has reached its destination.
