Mr Clarke has no intention of resigning. Attention is being directed to the head of the Lake as a field for settlement. A well-knswn firm here offers encouragement to immigrants. Through the wood-cutters being thrown out of employment, all is confusion for a time, aud cutting has been suddenly stopped. Trade is remarkably dull, and the population is leaving the district.
