A communication has been received from the Superintendent, in reply to a letter from Messrs Steward and t.hurcb. on behalf of the Hospital .Committee, to the eflect that the sum of lr ) ,000 will be placed on the est mates ; so that in the event of the ndowmeuts b ing sold, the proceeds may be placed to the credit of the Institution —Considerable progress has during the past week been made by the contractors, the wall having been completed an additional length of seventeen feet, and the pocket blocks laid for another, which, with fine weather, will he completed this week.—Mr Forrester, inspector of the harbor works, states that oa the day before fish, supposed to bo salmon, were reported as h-ving been seen off Waikouaiti and Dunedin Heads, he observed a shoal of fish answering to the same description close to the breakwater ; some of them leaped as much as three feet out of the water. *—The Immigration JBarreoks at the Point are in & forward state. The building strikes us as being very low for its size, but in other respects as well suited for the purpose for which it is intended. The railway station is all but finished. In the meantime, the building will be used as a public works office. —‘North Otago Times.’
