CORPORATION NOTICES; CITY OF DUNEDIN. PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given, that .. the assessment of all buildings, lands, tenements, and hereditaments within the City of Dunedin l (as authorised by - the Otago Municipal Corporations ■ Ordinance, 1865, and the Otago Municipal Corporations Ordnance Amendment Ordinance, 1872) for the year ending December 31st, 1874, according to the full, fair, and estimated annual rent at which the same might reasonably be expected to let from year to year, free of all usual tenant’s rates and taxes, and deducting therefrom the probable average annual cost of the repairs, insurance, and other expenses (if any) necessary to maintain the same m a state to command such rent has been duly made. Notice is further given that the said assessment haying, on the fourth day of March, 1874, been allowed by the Council of the said City, is now deposited, and may be duly inspected at the Town Clerk’s Office, in Manse street, in the said City, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., by any person interested therein. And notice is further given that any appeals. against' the said assessment may be. lodged at the City Council Chambers, Manse street (where blank forms may 1 be had), on ;or before the 24th day of March instant ;' also, that .a copy of each notice of apjpeal is required bjr law to be served not later than the 24th instant upon any person whose name it may be proposed to insert in the assessment, .or whose property it may be : .alleged has been omitted therefrom, or as- | ; Bossed below its full, fair, and annual value. valuable milling .property, and one which will undoubtedly prove payable, as past results have been such as to leave little doubt of future prospects. The present proprietor (Mr J. T. Stephen- < son) having exhausted all his capital, over L 2,500, in prospecting and developing this mine, has now determined to offer it to the public, and for his interest he retains 1;500 shares at 20s paid up, and also receives L 1,350 in cash. A considerable quantity of stone (over 700 tons) has been raised and crushed during prospecting, which has averaged one ounce, to the ton, and as a greater depth is reached, the stone gives evidence of increasing richness. Two shafts have been sunk from the upper level to a depth of 80ft each, but, owing to the quantity of water in the reef, the sinking has in the meantime been suspended j but the tunnel, now in course of construction—in over 140ft—will not only drain the reef to the depth of 450 ft, but will open up an extensive field of quartz capable. o affording continuous crushings. Nearly 500 shares are already applied for by residents in l Cromwell, where the mine is well known and highly thought of.
