From the first it was evident that, with the distance allowed her, Maggie was sure to win, which she did, the other two following a short distance behind. Kafoozlem, with a start of 350 yards', .was run in harness, and succeeded in maintaining a very respectable position in the match.
District Farmers’ Purse, of 25 sovs; one mile ; summer welter weightier age. Open only to horses the property of residents within the electoral district of the Taieri, and being their bond fide property for the two months previous to this meeting. The winner of the Taieri District Handicap to carry 51b extra. Mr Walter’s b m Ycrbena, 3 yrs, Ost 41b -' 1 „ Palmer’s c g Spritsail, 3 yrs, Sst 131b - 2 hive horses had been entered for this race, but bnjy three came to the starting post, one of thospj My Walter’s Geo "die, pulling up after going a short distance. Yerli'eua took the lead, and maintained it throughout, coming in an easy winner. °

Mr Snow’s b g Rufus, to be sold for Llo,6st 21b - . . - - 1 Mr Gneve’s b g Suip, to be sold for L2O, 7st 21b - - - * . - 2 Mr Shaw’s b g Premier, to be sold for L 20," 7sfc 21b . . , *3 Six horses started, the others being Mr Stephenson’s Prioress, Mr Reay’s Miss King, and Mr Almao’s Sicilia. A good start was effected, Snip being slightly ahead, and Rufus a httlp m the rear. The latter soon gained up to his opponent, and the best race of. the day ensiled, the horses going neok-and-neck tor the greater part of the distance. Rufus Upwpvor, obtained the lead, and came in first by a couple of lengths, both jockeys using the whip pretty freely, immediately afterwards the winner was put up to auction aud bought by Mr M‘i£*y for L2l. AHack Race, of lOsovs. Ten competitors. After a very good race it was won by Antelope. J
Consolation Handicap, of 15 sovs; entrance, 1 sov. ; 1 mile. ’ Mr Broadway’s Miss Rowe, 6st 71b - . 1 Mr Reay’s Miss King, 7st 101b - . o Mr Smith’s Mendicant, 6st - . . 3 These were the only horses entered for this event, which lay between Miss Rowe and Miss King, the horses coming in i Q the order stated.
