A STRANGE LIBEL CASE.

A strange -case between two clergymen ™ heard at the Dubbo Police Court. The Rev. C. R. Greig, Presbyterian minister, WM charged with publishing some false and defamatory libels concerning the Rev. E. Browne, clergyman of the Church of Pngland.i- It seems that the two reverend gentlemen have for some time been on bad terms, and;a civil action for libel -was now pending between them. The libels now complained of were published in letters addressed by the defendant to the prosecutor, whom--be- threatened’ with -criminal proceedings. The defence seemed to be that, the prosecutor was as bad as the defendant One witness described a meeting of the local school board, at which ‘both parties were present. 111 Heard Mr Browne say; ‘-You are'a liar and a wretch :■ if I had you in the next room: I wbuld ’hammer you right and left/Andatthesametime he threw himself into a fighting 7 attitade. Mr Greig 'Was explaining something to the board in reference to his daughter when Mr Browne interrupted him and said," * Oh, the little beast 1’ Believed Mr Brownewas drunk on that occasion, judging from his appearance and conduct. He could' Scarcely,stand up.” The Bench committed-the reverend defendant to take his trial.
