WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual meeting of the Board took place this morning. Present Messrs Thomson (Chief Commissioner), Strode, Clark, Reid, and Butterworth. Mr W. F. P. Gellibrand applied for the license to purchase part of reserve in block 5, North Harbor and Bluest in district, to complete his property; and also to be allowed to purchase part of section 21, block 7, Otago Peninsula district. The application was refused. Messrs Webb and Fulton applied, on behalf of Adam Fiennes, for protection for a term of six months for a lignite bed situated on the Kourou Run. The application was granted. Mr J. M l Lean applied to purchase the freehold of the agricultural lease held by him iu Tuapeka East, being sections 6, 28, 29, 31, 34, and 35, block. 3, and to buy the preemptive right of run 137. • Application withdrawn, Ranger Hughes reported on the application of Mr George Cameron, to lease a reserve of 75 acres, block 7, Waipahee. The , land was ordered to bo submitted to pttbliU competition, • '
A report was read from the Ranger of the Toi Tois and Mokoreta Hundreds, together with a list of unpaid assessments. The Board instructed that the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor should be taken as to the steps to be adopted for enforcing payment of the assessments. , , ,-f A communication was read Iromjthe Towja ; Clerk, Queenstown,’ asking the opinion of the Board as to whether the District LandOfficer could impose costs when granting arL adjournment. The applicant was. referred': for information to the Corporation Solicitor. Mr B Hallenstein applied for a lease of three acres, for a woollen factory, at the mouth of the One-mile Creek. Referred to the district Land Officer for advice. Mr M. Brunton applied for a license to quarry.stone on an .acre of ground , near the boundary of the township of Lawrence. This application was likewise referred to the District Land officer for advice. The District Officer recommended that Mr Perriman’s application should bo refused for section I, block 2, t roniwell; but that part of section 2, Wakefield district (10 acres j.rOii which he has built bis store aud dwelling house, should be sold. The land recommended to be sold was ordered to be submitted ;to ; public competition ■:at .The; ;upset price of L2 per acre, the improvements and survey fees to be added. . The District Land Officer , forwarded an application from Messrs Campbell and Kerf for an agricultural lease on runs 220 aud ‘259 1 The Board ordered that the opinion of the District Land Officer on the point should he confirmed."
Messrs Kenyon and Turton, on behalf of Donald M‘Creche and Coj' Naseby, objected to the grhnling of a"; coal' lease to ’-Mr Durwood/at Kyehhrii.; ‘The matter was referred to the District Land for advice/ ! ! Messrs uthrift and- Larriach applied to purchase 100. acres of land in the Woodlands district. . The Board decided it had no power to deal \vith the matter. A lengthened report of the sub-Committee as to the recommendation regarding l sawmill licenses and the ; conversion' of the bush leases of The Province was read andtablel. ■
