DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.
The quarterly meeting of the Presbytery was held in tho hall of the First Church this morning. Present—The Revs. Messrs Will (Moderator), Dr Copland, Dr Stuart, Gow, Watt, Johnstone, Blake, Gregg, and Gillies (clerk), and Dalgleish (elder). , HEW MODERATOR. The Moderator’s term of office having expired, the Rev. Mr Johnstone was elected in his place, and took the chair. LEAVE OP ABSENCE TO DR COPLAND. The session of North Dunedin Church intimated their sanction of a nine months’ leave of absence being granted to their minister, Dr Copland, in order , that that gentleman may visit Britain for tho benefit of his health. The members of the session also expressed a hope that Dr Copland would return with re-invi-gorated health and atrenth. CALL TO NORTH TAIEBX, A minute was handed in from the North Taxeri Session, which stated that a call to that district had been made to the Rev. James Skinner, M.A. The Rev. Mr Will read a letter which he had received from Mr Skinner, to the effect that he had been thinking over the matter, and 0n ®J? n8 idering the calls he had received—one to North Taieri, the-other to Waitahuna—he bad decided on accepting the can’t© Waitahuna. He (Mr Will) would therefore move that the Dresbytery move no further in the matter. Dr Stuart seconded the motion, which was earned. THEOLOGICAL PROFESSORS. - It was decided that the nomination of ministers from whom tho. Synod should choose Ibeological Professors should take place in September quarter. . . r , KAIRORAI, ■ On the motion of the Rev. Mr Blake, Messrs Dalgleish. Hepburn, and Wales were appointed assessors for the.Kaikorai congregation. . SUNDAY TRAINS. The Rev. Dr Copland intimated that the deputation appointed to bring before the notice of the Government the question of trains running on Sundays, had done so. hut he was-sorry to say no answer -had been returned. The deputation was received with every courtesy and the subject was promised every consideration, but although the speaker had since written to his Honor the Superintendent in reference to ri, stjll po notiee w.as taken. ‘ ’Thhß'ey. said that he had a conrecently ‘ ■with dome rheffibers of the Executive, and he was in a position to state that the subject had been considered by the Cjoyejnment °nce and agsin. ' It had received . amount of attention, instead of inattention being shown it.; the fact was, the members of the Government could not make up their minds. • n ? a^. er then dropped, and this concludes the business, the Presbytery adjourned till tno first Wednesday in June.
