CA.DET COMPETITION'. The lull returns of the cadet cdmpetftion in the Province being now to hand, we are enabled to give them publicity. The General Government have awarded seventeen prizes in Otigo of the total value of L 27, the amount proportioned being according t6 the number of efficient -cadets inthe, Province, and the conditions of firing were as follows: -Ranges, 100, 200. and 300; yards, seven shots at each range; targets,ti x 4ft; centre, 4 x 2ft ; bull’s eye, 2x Ift. The Dunedin. City Guards, and North Dunedin Cadets tired about a month ago with the following‘re, suit:— ■'

The Christchurch cadets have been very poorly represented, so far as numbers were concerned, and only two oftho. scores were fairly creditable. In partial explanation of this falling off, it may be said that Prebblo and Davie, who were the highest scorers in the Province last year, were ill'at the time when the firing too place. Fifth prize, 12s 6d—Sergt. Melton, Timaru. The thirty highest scorers among the Cadets in the whole Colony will be selected to compete for several money prizes and the Champion Belt for 1874.
