RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Saturday, February 28. (Before J. Bathgate, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness —A. C. Josling, not appearing, was fined 10s, or three days’ j John Williams, 20s, or six days’. Ship Desertion.—William M ‘Donald was charged with deserting from the ship Jessie Headman.—Accused pleaded guilty, and as Captain Mitchell did not require his services, having plenty of hands engaged, he was sentenced to thirty days’ imprisonment, with hard labor. Assault.—James Warren was brought up, on remand, charged with assaulting Anne Manning.—Prosecutrix appeared in Court this morning, having recovered sufficiently from the effects of the assault, and stated that she did not wish to proceed with the charge.—His Worship then discharged accused, remarking that he hoped the risk he had run would be a warning to him in the future ; for a man who was proved to have ill-used a woman, deserved and would receive a heayy. punishment.
