Wellington, for Northern Ports, March 5 The schooner Friendship arrived this morning from the Molyneux, with 70 tons of coal The s.b. Wallabi arrived at ten o’clock this morning from her Southern trip, and passed up to Dunedin. The Harbor Co.’s p.s. Samson returned from Oamaru at nine o’clock last evening. Had etrong S.S.B. wind and heavy rain during the passage. The 8.8, Wanganui came down from Dunedin yesterday, and took on board transhipments from the ships Lutterworth and Margaret Galbraith, and sailed for the Bluff this morning, with a nnmber of passengers, including Captain Tatehell of the May Queen, and a put of the crew shipped here for that vessel THE LUNA’S TRIP. The p.s. Luna, Captain Fairchild, left Dunedin at7.3C ( p.m. on the 21st, on a cruise for the purpose of inspecting the existing lighthouses and surveying sites for new ones. Went all night under easy steam, and arrived at the Nuggets Lighthouse at daylight next morning; landed stores and inspected lighthouse, and left at 8.30 a.in. same day for Gatlin’s River, where she landed Mr Mills, Collector of Customs at Dunedin, who inspected the wreck of the Surat. Capt. Fairchild reports that the Surat looks as ■tong as ever, with the exception of the poop being stove in. After spending about half an hour the Luna again steamed down the coast, and landed off Dog Island, at 7.30 p.m. on the 22nd ; landed and shipped stores, and inspected lighthouse, and afterwards arrived at the Bluff at 11.30 p.m.; sailed again at 1 p.m., and went under easy steam to Centre Island, where she landed the scientific portion of the passengers, who took the height of. the island, and thoroughly inspected it for a site for a lighthouse. . Steamed thence to Rugged Island, where she landed Captains Johnson and Hutton, and Mr Wilson; the Luna meanwhile crossing to Codfish Island, where she landed a party in Sealer’s Cove, and where Mr Burton, photographer, availed himself of the opportunity of taking a number of views. After spending about two hours at the island, stcsmedbaok to Rugged Island, and re-embarked Captain Johnson and party, and then steamed to Port William, where those on board inspected the barracks, and at 9.30 on the 24th, steamed across to the Bluff, where she arrived at 11.30 a.m. After having shipped a quantity of coal and stores, the Luna sailed for the West Coast at 5 p.m. —‘ Southland Times. ’
