Thursday, February 26, (Before Captain Thomson and Dr. Drysdale. J.P.s.) Drunkenness.— Robert Young (on bail) not appearing, forfeited his bail (L2). Accused was a passenger by the Samson from Oamaru last night. Bye-laws. James Gall, alias the Badger, was charged with ringing a bejl in Port Chalmers for the purpose of announcing an entertainment on the 23rd instant.—Constable Erndge stated that he asked Gall for his license, while ringing the bell, and he told witness to go and find it, as he had got liberty from Mr Brebner to ring the bell.— Sergeant Neil stated that about 9 p.m, on the 23rd he heard Gall and another licensed bejlman ringing in the streets. Gall was very drunk at the time. Witness cautioned him, and told him to go away, —Gall stated that before he rang the bell he asked Mr Brebner if he coujd dp so, as he had no money then to pay for the license, and Mr Brebner told him he could go on. He had taken out a license on the 23rd of December, which remained in force until the 23rd of March. He would like the case adjourned until Mr Brebner returned from Camara. The case was adjourned accordingly. License. —’John Drake applied for a slaughtering license at !St. Leonards. There being no objection by the police, it was granted.
