The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on jroods cleared for consumption this day, was L 642 9s 3d. A fair week’s business has been done, though not to the extent erf the previous week. On Thursday there was an extensive sale at Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn, and Co.’s rooms, of sugars, ex Brenda, from Mauritius. The importers having announced their intention to sell, there was a large attendance of the trade, and biddings were somewhat animated, every line being cleared off at fair prices. Finest whites, fetched L 37 5s to L 37 7s 6d; second ditto, L 36 to L 36 10s; good greys, L 35 ; finest yellows, L 34 2s 6d ; gowd browns, L 32 to L 33 ; and brewers’ crystals, L353s to L 35 10s. The tea market is heavily stocked, and prices show no signs of improvement. Butter continues firm, and may be quoted at lid te Is. Colonial cheese may be quoted at 6d to Old. Candles are coming freely and have been placed at 10|d. Kerosene is still quoted at Is 9d, but parcels to hand may be bought for a shade less. Bottled stout has heen sold on the spot, this week, for 12s 6d. Eleme raisins have sold for s|d; sultanas, pjd. General goods are coming freely, and prices for oilmen’s stores and general goods are likely to give way a little. Messrs M’Landress, Hepburn, and Co. today offered for sale, on behalf of Mr James Kilgour, some very choice sections in the township of Eothsay, on the Dunedin and Port dial iners Kailway. There was a very large attendance, and the whole of the sections offered—--148 m all—were sold. The upset price was L 5 an acre, and the average price realized was from L 9 to LIO. The lowest price for any one section was L 6 15s, and the highest Lll 10s. Mr Kilgour invariably advertises the upset price, and his sales are always successful; and this shows the wisdom P™perty-holders announcing the upset price at which their land may be bought, for sections are often worked up through this not being done, and when within a pound or two of the upset price have to be passed. rivtu P' Spading sold to-day by auction, ™ 10 ? al InsuraßCe Company’s shares at 24s Sr’*- 70 ?°D at , 24 , s > and 65 do at 23s 6d; 50 National Bank do at 64s 6d ; 25 South British d^at^s^d 0 ’ Shotover Mining A.
