General Wolseley and the British forces under his command reached the River Prah on the Ist January. About an hour after his arrival he was met by ambassadors from the King of Ashantee, bearing letters asking for peace. Sir Garnet Wolseley replied that he would only treat with the King himself at Coomassic, 'ni^ ox \ ambassadors returned. The tilth JNaval Brigade crossed the Prah on the sth or last month. Up to Saturday last forty-eight members have been elected. Of these, twenty are Liberals, and twenty-eight Conservatives, iiignt Liberals have been ousted by Conservative candidates. General Gablentz has committed suicide.
