THE GRAVING DOCK.

TWf 8 a deputation from the Dock S m!! n ? + iV f Messrs R. B. Martin Bums, and J. S. Webb (secretary), waited upon his ilonor the «nn B nf n i ende f bl ™S before him fIUCSf w h .® extens . l ?uof the Graving Dock. • ar TIN said that the deputation came, -fr d . anC ° a resol «tion passed at the S pffLf hje f request hiß Honor to use his efforts to obtain powers from the G T er l^ en^ nabk them to extend the dock to a length of 400 or 450 ft. The amval m port lately of the s.s. Mikado had clearly demonstrated that the dock’s accommodation so far as length was concerned, was insufficient for vessels of modern build, though the width was sufficient for any vessel’s beam. The length f 11 ® Mikado is 386 ft, or 20ft greater than that of the dock.

His Honor said he was aware that the dimensions of the dock were inadequate to vessels of the Mikado class, and that he felt strongly the necessity for increased extension. Unfortunately, though the dock paid in an indirect manner, it was not a direct paying concern, and tlusmightmterfere with any great assistance being given. The members of the Trust should not attempt to do too much at once. Their best course would be to obtain full particulars of everything relating to the dock, and he would lay them before the Executive.
