Th® question of tobacco importations over the Sydney border has again arisen in connection with the duties. The unearned profits of the coal owners, according to Professor Leone Leri (says “Anglo Australian” in the ‘European Mail’), have advanced 500 per cent in three years. That is, the difference between the cost of producing the coal at the pit’s head and the selling price was 7d per ton in 1871, while it is at the present time 3a fid per ton.
