RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Monday, January 26. (Before Drs Drysdale and O’Donoghue, J.5?.5) Disobedience op "Lawtul .Commands.— Charles Dunu, who was charged by Captain Kerr, of the ship Duu&Uan, with the above offence, pleaded not guilty. Mr Mansfield,. who appeared for the complainant, stated that the defendant was shipped as cook, but shortly afterwards was found to be unfit, and was then placed as quartermaster, in which capacity hfe acted until the arrival of the ship in port. On Saturday afternoon he refused to wash decks. Captain Kerr had no wish to press the charge, and as the defendant had obtained a summons against the captain for assault, to be heard tomorrow, Captain Kerr was quite willing to discharge and pay him his wages. The case was adjourned till 11 a, m. to-morrow, to permit of arrangements being made for settling all the cases. ' ■ , ■ Drunkenness.—Mary Edie was fined 20s, or; 48 hours. Chgles Manoska and Henry Schidner alias Brown, 10s each, or 48 hours. -
