•A* y \js^ d ' ay,fl Council meeting, ChunciUof Walter moved, “That this Council confer with his Honor' the ; Superintendent, and the Umvewity Committee,' With a view of purchasing the Otago University/an'd that the following Councillors be.formed, into a committee to consider into the subject, ind report to the Council thereon:—Counoillera Reeves Prosser, Ramsay, andthemoverJ* Councillor M alter said ho had had a cohyersation with the Superintendent on the above subject, and from what he had said, he' V&s led to believe, that the University Buildffiw could be obtained by the would, with some little alteration suit the Corporation admirably. ' The site could cnot nh SSPtf*!. “ they c onld there was no doubt that a sum of money expendedon it would make it all they could desire* xhe Dowling street and other, sites could'he leased, and bring them in a revenue, fto was much, obliged to Councillor Reevfes'for having withdrawn; his motion on the subject of Dowling street in favor of the one wMbh he had just read.-Councillor Prosser seoonded the motion, on, condition that the fob lowing words were added—** and- that the committee which has been named shall bo empowered to visit the Hall, and take such opinion as they may deem necessary, intoitier to see if it is suitable for the purposesof a Towu RalL If the Hall could be enlarged so as to hold several thousand people; then it would be a most desirable building!, Ha considered the committee should get . com. petent advice on the subject, however, before bringing up their rcport.-The motion was unanimously agreed to.
