The clause of the Act provides, “ Except as herein mentioned, any person may on any day, during office, hours, apply personally to i a Land Officer acting ia the district for a license to occupy an allotment of waste land in any block of laud proclaimed or set apart for the purpose, as thereinafter provided, in any hundred containing such block, and shall at such; time the fee for one half* year s occupation as herein ptovided. A' report was read from the District Officer to the effect that the application .of Mr James Tannabill, to become purchaser of a piece of laud at the Taieri Ferry, was reasonable. The land was ordered to be surveyed at the applicant’s .expense, and the application to be granted subject to the consent of the runholder. . ’ -

Ferguson, on behalf of Mr Duncan Campbell, made a similar application to that of Mr Gillies with regard to an appli cation made under the 49ch section of the Waste Lands Act, for sections 33, 37, and 38, block 7, Waipahee district. The applied tion was refused, on the ground that the provisions of the Act, requiring personal application, .had not been complied with.
