Drunkenness. —Rose Jackman, arrested by Constable Gilbert whilst lying asleep in George street, pleaded that she was fatigued, and Md laid down to have a rest. She was fined -ss; hours’ imprisonment.— William Ure and Charles Bolt were mulcted in similar penalties. - A Foolish Youno Fellow.— George Carrawell, a youth about eighteen years of age, in answer to a charge of unlawfully leaving the s.s. Mikado, pleaded that he understood' whbri 5® that he was at liberty to run away.— ihe Magistrate put in that that was the Adst original thing he had heard for some time.— Captain Newell wished accused to be sent back to the ship, which Was to sail to-morrow.—A number of the older men had left the ship, arid he had been enticed away by them.—His Worship : Now, young man, let me give y&ul a piece of advice. Don’t be led aWay into wiring by older men. The idea of your coming here to tell us you were entitled to run away !" It is impossible. The captain does not ship order that you may run away; .you are. old enough to know better. You will be sent'to the ship you deserted.—Prisoner; Thank you. sir. ’ CIVIL CASES.
