January 2. —Olaud Hamilton, s.s., 662 tons, Bowden, for Melbourne, via Northern and West Coast Ports. Passengers : For Lyttelton —Mr M‘Kay. For Wellington—Miss Brodie and Mr Wyatt. Five in the steerage for Melbourne, and 31 Chinese for Hokitika. AT THE HEADS.' January 2.—Ship Agnes Muir. The Lloyd’s Herald, from Gatlin’s River, arrived yesterday. The Eliza MThee, from Gatlin’s River, for Kakanui, put in yesterday. The schooner ; Jane Hannah was taken into Jackson’s floating dock yesterday. The steamers Samson, for Oamaru, and Wanganui, for the Bluff, sailed on Wednesday night. The barque Hadda was towed down from Dunedin by the s.s. Wanganui on Wednesday afternoon. The Isabella, from Moeraki and Allday Bay, ai rived yesterday with .309 bags of wheat, for transhipment to the Zealnndia. The Governor’s yacht Blanche returned yes : terday morning, from a fishing cruise. His Excellency and party were conveyed to Dunedin by the 11.30 train. Yesterday was observed as a close holiday at the Port. The various vessels in port had their bunting flying and decorated with green bushes, but the most conspicuous was the ship Jessie Readman, which, besides plenty of bunting and green bushes, had on her bulwarks “ A Happy New Year,” very nicely executed with flowers and green leaves. There were very few visitors, the French war steamer Yire being the chief attraction.
The well-known frigate-built ship Warrior Queen, from London, still under the command of Captain Wilson, was signalled at the Heads at an early hour yesterday. The tug Geelong immediately .got up steam,'and proceeded down and towed her up, under the charge of Pilot Kelly, to the quarantine ground, she having powder on board. The clearance and health officers proceeded down in the s.s. Result, and shortly afterwards she was cleared. She brings a large ’cargo and twenty passengers, and we thank Captain Wilson for' the following report Left the East India Docks on the 13th September, passed through the Downs on the 20tll, taking her final departure off the Start on’the 23rd; sighted Madeira on the 6th of October, and St. Antoni on the 12th; from thence had light winds and calms to the equator, which was crossed on ‘the 26th in long. 27.56 W. ; from thence to the 3rd of November had moderate and light winds ; when in lat. 18.30 SI encountered a heavy S.B. gale, with tremendous high seas, some of which broke on board with such force as to break one and start two others of the topgallant forecastle deck beams ; likewise starting five of the deck planks,' and doing other damage. Afterwards! had fine trades till reaching 30 S. ; on November 18th, passed a iceberg in lat. 46.36 S., long. 4.56 W,; crossed the meridian of Greenwich on the 20th, in 47 S., and that of the Cape pn the 24th, in lat. 47.31 S.; from November 28th till December Bth, had S.E. winds, with thick gloomy weather ; on December 11th, sighted Kerguelen’s Land, her easting being run down between 48 to 4!) S.. with W. and N.W. winds; passed the Snares on the 30th, and arrived at the Heads at daylight yesterday. After discharging her powder, she will be towed up to the railway pier. Her passenfers were conveyed to Dunedin by the p.s. ’eninsula this morning. SHIPPING TELEGRAM. Bluff, January 2. Agnes Muir, from London to Port Chalmers, eighty-six days out, passed to the eastward.
