Bluff, December 30, The Claud Hamilton arrived at the Bluff at 5 a.m. to-day. tihe left Melbourne 230 p.m. on the 24th instant. She brings 39 saloon and 30 steerage passengers, 300 tons cargo, 21 houses, and 50 rami, for all ports. Sails for Dunedin at 3 p.m. to-day. Passengers: Messrs A. Webster, Bloomington, Davidson, Coventry, Mercer, Thomson, Steinau, Skinner, Wilkinson, Lawes, Mesdames Boss, Bloomington, Sloman, Cameron, Davidson, Misses Boss, Cameron (2), Corrigan, Rev. D. Cameron, Master Boss, and fifteen in the steerage ; 120 tons of cargo, 27 horses, and 20 rams, Nelson, December 29. A fatal accident is reported from Golden Bay. Charles Lewis, the son of a surveyor, was on a haystack, and Michael Campion was forking hay up to him. Campion joked and irritated Lewis, who said he would come down and make him stop. Preparatory to getting down, Lewis threw down his fork, which pierced Campion’s stomach, and he died four hours later, exonerating Lewis from blame. At the Coroner’s inquest, the jury returned a verdict of “manslaughter” against Lewis.
