{Per India.) The English cricketers have been entertained at iu ch at the Town Hall by the Mayor. Mr Grace, in his reply to the toast of the English cricketers, spoke highly of their estimation of Australia. The Victorian cricketers have selected Cooper, Costick, Gibson, Kelly, Kendall, Robertson, Loughnan, Alexander, Campbell, Carr, Gaggin, Goldsmith, Alice, Horam, Stewart, Wyudham, Allan, Conway, Midwinter, M'Gann, and Bishop. Eighteen are to be picked from these to contest with the English team. The township of Matlock has been destroyed yesterday by fire, with the exception of one house. At a monster meeting at Chines the following resolution was carried unanimously : —That the meeting expresses its abhorrence at the Conduct ot those persons with whom the responsibility rests of having attempted to subject our town to the moral pollution and attendant horrors of a Chinese encampment; and this meeting protests against the outrageous conduct of the police authorities in endeavoring, by means of an armed constabulary force, to coerce the inhabitants into receiving Chinese labor in opposition to that of the resident European population. ”
