Drunkenness. —Andrew Tnnes and Francis Tgo were each fined ss, with the option of 24 hunrs’ imprisonment; Henry (’handler, for a similar olfence while in charge of a horse, 10s, or 48 hours’ imprisonment.— John S. Johnston, a very old offender, charged with being drunk and disorderly on Saturday afternoon, pleaded guilty, but expressed sorrow at his misconduct. He asked to he let off, so that he might “ clear out.”--His Worship; I told you in the gaol the other day the proper course for you to pursue when you got out.—The Prisoner: If your Worship would allow me to get away—His Worship ; Well, you may go away this time, sir. —The prisoner then left the Court. Vagrancy.— Elizabeth Skinner, also an old offender, was charged with having no lawful visible means of support.—ln answer to the charge she said, “It’s all too true.”—Sergeant O’Neill said that at 12.20 o’clock this morning he found the woman sleeping in a house between Walker and Stafford streets.—His Worship (to prisoner) : I see there are eight convictions on the sheet before me against you. It would almost be a charity to take care of you and give you shelter; don’t you think so ? —The accused said she wanted to go and stay with her brother at Anderson’s Bay and lead a better life.--His Worship thought she ought to have gone there before. As she appeared in a very dirty state, and apparently wanted to be cleans.ed, she might go to gaol for fourteen days. Theet.— Frederick Harris was charged with having, on the 14th inst., stolen from the premises of Edward Pritchard about six pounds of horse-shoe pails, of the yalue of ss. The prosecutor said he saw the accused come out of his shop with a parcel in lps hand, and on asking him what it was, he replied “a fowl”; but witness not believing him gave him into custody, apd on the parcel being searched it found to contain' horse-shpe nails. Accused was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment. civil cask. John Davis v. John Brown.—Glftim L2 Ills, balance of account due. Judgment for L2 10s, with costs.
