{From Sydney Papers.) An important point in insurancclawhas been raised in the Victorian Supreme Court. It is whether the insurers are liable if a fire occurs during the days of grace, and before the insurer has tendered his premium. Judgment is reserved. Bickerings, having reference to the appoint meat of the Victorian players against the English eleven, have led to tiie resignation of Mr Hammersley, who had been a member of the match committee. The Government are making inquiries into the atrocities alleged by a contributor of the “ Telegraph” to have been committed on the South Seas by a vessel supposed to be the Daphne. It is said that the particulars of these outrages were communicated to Commodore Sterling, who alleged that he could not see his way clear to take action, because there was only black evidence available. The contributor “ Outis” no longer signs in that name, but in his own, namely, “L. Fison,” The Daphne i« essentially a Melbourne vessel. The captain and supercargo, members of two of the leading families in Victoria, are charged with murder, rape, and kidnapping.
