WASTE LAND BOARD.

The usual weekly meeting of the Hoard was held to-day. Present: The ('hief Commissioner, Mcssis Hastings, Hutterworth, Clarke, Reid, and Strode. Mr Doughty, for Mr Albert Cross, applied for a mineral lease of bush reserve, block 9, Dunedin ami East Taiori. Leave was given to prospect for three mouths, with power to take up a lease of ten acres at or before the expiration of that time. Mr Fraser applied for a mineral lease for fourteen years of five acres of Kapiti township, for lime burning, to include the acre held by Mi John Nelson, with his consent, ami the lease to be in the names of Messrs John Nelson, Thomas Douglas, Alexander Fraser, and James MT’hee. Granted at Lo per annum, to be surveyed at applicant’s expense. Mr A. Rutherford applied under clause 161 for a license to occupy TOGO acres of partially cleared burnt country on the Hakkup river, Tautuku bush. Granted, at LI per annum, Mr John Bruce applied to have sections 8 and 11, block 1, Kaitangata, offered for sale at 10s per acre. The Hoard decided they had no power in the matter, and applicant was referred to the Government. Mr Driver, of Driver, Stewart and Co,, for Messrs J. and J. A. Callender, applied to have section 9, block 8, Dunedin and East Taieri, put up for sale. To lie sold at auction as land of special value ; upset price, LI Is per acre. Mr Hugh MTntyre objected to the sale of the part of nm 108 included between the east and west branches of the Waikoikoi. Mr Anderson, of Messrs Smith and Anderson, appeared for Mr MTntyre, ami stated that he had mistaken the date of the adjournment of this question, which was from November 6 “ for a month,” and applicant would therefore not be in attendance until the Oth instant. —Mr Bastings said the matter should be settled to-day, as the Government had been much disturbed in their arrangements already by Messrs MTntyre and M'Kenzie appointing to meet on-several occasions and always failing.—Mr Anderson said if the matter were decided then, his client would bo placed in a very awkward position, and asked that the Board adjourn it till Saturday poxfc at 11 a.m,—After discussion, the adjournment was agreed to, Mr Richard Bennett applied to purchase about four acres of block 2, Teviot. Referred to District Land Officer to report on. Mr Arthur Neville, chairman at a public meeting recently hold at Beaumont, forwarded a complaint against Mr Richard Lancaster for fencing in ami ploughing of the mining reserve opposite the latter gentleman’s farm at Beaumont, thereby causing great inconvenience to the miners. Mr Lancaster’s reported conduct was regarded by the Board as very extraordinary, and the matter wag referred to the Government for inquiry, with a view to proceedings being taken. ]\lr Thomas Murray applied to purchase sections 1, 2, 3, and 4, block 3, Tdde Hill. Refused, the land being supposed to lie payably auriferous, Mr W, It, Leggatfc applied for authority to erect additional storage adjoining his present building at Moeraki, which was erected by permission on Government land. Applicant to furnish a sketch, and if approved, 100 links frontage to be granted, under the 101st clause. Messrs J. W. Robertson ami Co. applied to purchase sections 107, 108, and 112, block 1, Shotover. Approved. Mr A. \V. Paterson applied to exchange his lease of sections 10, 11, and 01, block 4, Shotover, h«ld under agriculturaHease. Approved. Mr John Fleming applied to purchase iiO acres of run 24.1. It having been duly advertised and surveyed, and no objections lodged, the application was granted, at LI per acre. Mr A. J. Grant asked permission to substitute an application for 640 acres for his application for Ids pre-emptive right, right 170. Ap-

Refused. Mr Harris, for Mr Janies Shand, said he appeared to mention that gentleman’s application for land in the Traquair Hundred, which had already been twice before the Board. On the first occasion it was the day after the new Act came into force, and the opinion grew that Mr Shand was endeavoring to forestall the public. Ho, however, acquiesced in the postponement of the application until it had been advertised for one month, so as to take his chance with the general public. Only one other application, however, was put in, and that was tftf 2QQ or 3()0 acres by Mr Barraclough, and Mr Shand Was willing to pqiqpetfl wiih jpu} fop that land, but considered himself entitled to obtain the other portions at the upset price, and be declared the purchaser.
