It appears that the New Zealand team declined to shoot with small-bores against NewSouth AVa'es for the Cup offered by Victoria, because they had not had time to practise so as to choose the best eight. They offcit-d to shoot with four small-bore shots, or with eight if long bores were adopted, but both these propositions were declined by Now South A Vales. In match five, at (500 yards. Dunn, of Melbounie, was top scorer with 17; Skinner. New Zealand, took the second prize of E3, with 10; Goldie, of Otago, and Fox, Canterbury, got LI each, with lb. In this match New Zealand took three out of eight prizes. In the All comers’ Alatch, Partington of Auckland took the first prize of L 7, with 27 points, Halse of Wellington ami Aldt-rton of Wanganui prizes of 1.2 each for scores of 23. In the Ladies’ Trophy Alatch every lady subscribing bs being entitled to name a competitor at the meeting to shoot for her Stone of Auckland carried off the first prize, 1.10 worth of jewellery, with a score of 22 ; Reid of Otago got an ormolu gilt clock with 20; AULevie of Hokitika, cabinet photos with 20 ; and Goldie, Otago, a quantity of music with 111. Fenton of Auckland was the only New Zealand representative who took a prize in the Rapid Firing with Breechloaders Alatch. The top scorer was Slade, Now South. "Wales, with 04 ; Fenton made 34. In the Draper target match, for which there were over 400 entries, Alunyard, Hoskin, Fenton, Ahlerton, Reid, Matthews, Hohhs, and Stone were prizetakers, each receiving LI, together with some useful article. In the coming man match, Hunt was top scorer with 20, and took the first prize of L 3 ; Hoskin second, 1.2 5s with Ifi ; Goldie, Taylor, and Slade (N.S.W.) each got los with scores of Ls. In the pool match, Christie was the only New Zealand prizetaker. On Wednesday eight New Zealand riflemen proceeded to Ballarat to shoot a match with the local Club, at b()0 and (100 yards. The New Zealand team, with Enfield rifles, made 3fib points, and Ballarat, with the Hay rifle, scored 324, New Zealand winning by 71 points. They afterwards changed the weapons in a scratch match, when Ballarat was successful. The Auckland, Thames, and Taianaki men have left, via Sydney. Walker and another remain.
