AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. (By Tklkgkaph.) > IV Ellington, November 20. The cricket match commenced at 0.40 this morning, the weather being splendid, and the ground in good order. Auckland won the toss.' and put Wellington in. Robinson started the bowling, Wood receiving and playing steadily the over, which was a maiden, Sweet bowling the other end, and J. J. Salmon receiving his over, which was also a maiden. The first run was to Wood for a cut to slip. Sweet followed with another maiden. Wood then hit Robinson’s third ball to the off, and it was well held by Yates. 1 for 2. Evans cut the first ball be got to long slip for I. Salmon then got a hit to slip for 2, making 6 runs off Sweet’s over. Salmon then hit to off for 2, both men bowling well on the wickets. Evans made his first run off Sweet’s next ball, and in the second Salmon was bowled clean. 2 for 11. Jacobs, the incomer, slipped one with a Cambridge poke to the centre, Evans got another 1, but Robinson's first, ball took his bails. 3 for 13. W. Salmon joined Jacobs, and got a leg-bye. Jacobs hit Sweet for 3, but' Robinson’s first ball took his wicket. 4 for 20. Marchant, who took Jacobs’s place, cut His first ball into Mnmford’s hands at point. 5. for 20l Knapp was run out on trying for 2. 6 for 27, Auckland fielding splendidly. Salmon hit Robinson for a good 2, and was playing steadily when he slipped Sweet’s second ball into slip’s hands (Lankham). 7 for 21t Betts, a left-hand player, sent Sweet’s; second ball to square leg for 1. Dees, made a pretty hit from off [Robinson* for 3, but Sweet’s third ball took hia centre stump. 8 for 34. limits, in hitting wildly, was bowled by Robinson, in his third ball. 9 for 35. Dufaur took the rest of Marchant’s over, playing it carefully. Two maidens followed, the batters, being in good form, After a few runs, Dufauwas stumped by W, Salmon. 2 for 18. Mumford skied Evans’s second ball, and was caught by \V, d. Salmon. 3 for IS. King hit to square leg for 3, but Evans’s third ball took Alpe's wicket 4 for 25. Marchant’s seoon/1 ball took King’s wicket, it going; in off his pad. Yates hit Evans’s fimf for A.
