SCHOOL BOOKS IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

To the Editor, Fir,—ln looking over the report of the Education Board I noticed a communication from the Green Island School Committee relative to the change of school books ; and, from the remarks of his Honor the Superintendent and others, it appears this trouble and expense of change of books is to endeavor to please or satisfy Or Moran, Roman Catholic Bishop. I would ask, in the name of a Protestant community, are we to be led by the nose by a man who is a servant of an infallible Pontiff, whose orders must be obeyed? If the Education Board imagine this will satisfy the Roman Catholic priesthood they are mistaken altogether, and the sooner that Board strive to conserve the interests of the Protestant community the better; because to try to satisfy the Romanist priests would be impossible, excepting by handing over the education of our youth to the nun, Jesuit, or priest. They tell us in their organ that they will not yield one iota of their religious views—how can they, according to their infallible dogma ?—then why should we ? If we believe in the truth, and the. staud we make against the errors and superstition of that priesthood, it is to be deplored that an enlightened body of men, such as compose the Education Board, should be overawed by Bishop Moran or any of the fraternity.
