One of the most important rules of the science of manners is an absolute silence in regard to yourself. It is stated in the UenthmnrCs Magazine that Dr Hobra, of Vienna, has made a discovery that explains one of the miracles of the Old Testament. This is that the leprosy of the Bible was scabies, and that Naaman’s cure by washing in the Jordan was due to the amount of sulphur which tbe water of that river contains, whereas those of Pharpar and Abana, rivers of Damascus, contain hardly any sulphur. The Swiss Times says that at Beguins, Canton Vaud, the ordinary customers of the publicans are submitting to a privation which is both real and inflicted by themselves. In consequence of the late frosts, fears were entertained by tbe vine-growers that the grape crop for 1873 would be lost. The alarm spread to the publicans, and it was unanimously decided that they should augment the price of wine in stock. Jhis step did not meet the approval of their customers, who resolved to resent it by striking. Since this memorable decision cabarets and anberges have been nearly deserted.
