In the new volume of despatches, correspondence, &c., of tho Duke of Wellington, published by the present Duke, we find a characteristic letter from Jeremy Beutham to tho Duke, expostulating with him for his duel with the Earl of Winchclsca. “Illadvised man !” the letter begins, “ think of the confusion info which the whole fabric of government would have been thrown had }'ou been killed, or had the trial of you for the murder of another man been substituted in the House of Lords for the passing of the Emancipation Bill.”
