The following letter has been placed at our disposal for publication : To Messrs Robert Gillies, John Cargill, W. J. M. Larnach, and others. Referring to your late interview with the Deputy Superintendent and members of tho Executive Council, relative to the survey of Otago Harbor, I ani now directed to inform That the Government finds it lias no staff at its disposal just now to undertake tho survey of the harbor, but that it is probable some of the officers might bo spared about the close of the year, when the Government would endeavour to commence the work and to have it completed in time to he submitted to tho next session of the Provincial Council. 2nd, That the borings at Black Jack s 1 oint •will be undertaken as soon as the engineer can find time. .
