RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Monday, October 27. (Before D. Rolfe, Esq., and Captain Thomson, J, L\'s) Drunkenness. —Thomas Brown, charged with being drunk and disorderly on the 2(3fch inst., was lined 10s or 24 hours. Disobedience of Lawful Commands. — John Cole and William Author were charged by Captain Matthew Bayley, master of the ship Wild Duck, with disobedience of his lawful commands, on the 2 th instant. Both pleaded guilty.—Captain 'Bayley was quite willing to take them on beard again, if they promised to behave themselves for the future.—The Bench ordered them on board the ship, and if they made their appear* ance at the Court again this case would go against them. The Court expenses were to be deducted from their wages.—Joseph Williams was charged by James Taylor, chief officer of the ship Dover Castle, witli wilful disobedience of his lawful conn amis. Accused pleaded not guilty.—The prosecutor stated that on the mornuig of the 2ith, the prisoner made use of abusive language towards him. He took no notice of this, as the prisoner had just come out of gaol. After tea, witness was standing at the gangway when the prisoner came up aud pushed him, again making use of abash® language, ao4
Having he would take three months for witness, who then sent for a policemap, and cave him in charge. The prisoner Faid he could bring witnesses to prove ho never used any abusive language. The Bench adj -urned the case till to-morrow; to allow time for accused to produce witnesses.
