If he completes the business there in time, it is his intention to return to N eiv South Wales in the steamer Macgregor, which leaves San Francisco in January. Now interest has been added to the lichborne trial by John Tine, steward of the barque Osprey, deposing with great circumstantiality to the picking up of the boat containing the claimant, off the Brazilian Coast in the spring of 1854. Hu further deposed that the Osprey took the claimant to Melbourne. His evidence caused strong sensation, Mr Henry James, whose seat in the House of Commons became vacant on his accepting the office of Solicitor-General, lias been re-elected for Taunton. . Tallerman’s Meat Company at its half-yearly meeting, declared a nett profit of L 1,400. Three hundred and twenty thousand cases were received last year, equal to 17,500 tons. The total imports of New Zealand wool this year were 104,584 hales wool; 01,575 were sold. Sandy New Zealand wools gave way in the course of the late sales only, and are now a penny higher than in May. .Superior fleece washed combing command extreme rates. Some of the best Lincolnshire rams were bought re ceutly by Mr Thus. Russell, of Auckland, Mr Poison, of Canterbury, and Mr Smith of Napier. Mr Sharpe, of New Zealand, was also a purchaser. The National Bank of New Zealand has appointed Mr Steele, Secretary of the New Zea Igi'jd Loan and Mercantile Agency, London manager, vieb Mr Grace, who retired owing to ill health. Trades unionist candidates will be put up at the next general election. The Miners’ Association contribute 1/1,000 for the election expenses of their candidate. Mr John Bright has satisfactorily replied to a letter from the Staleybridge Republican Club, urging economy in the administration of linance. The Bank forgers were, betrayed by the woman who lived with them. Besides servitude, the prisoners pay a fourth of the expenses of the prosecution. The German Emperor’s letter to the Pope, in reference to the Jesuits, is warmly approved of in England. *
