WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day. Present—Tbe Chief Commissioner and Messrs Bastings, Butterworth, Clark, Reid, and Strode. Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr John Dalziel, applied to have section 25, block 2, Warepa, put up for sale. Referred to the Ranger to report on. Mr Stout, for Mr Donald Monr->, moved that he be allowed to purchase a piece of land, about 30 acres, adjoining section 37, block 1. Declined. Mr Wm, Brown, for Messrs J. and A. Gray, applied for a license, under clause 169, to occupy section I, block 1, Coast district. Adjourned for a fortnight, in order to obtain information as tq Rs cqal-Rearing nature. Ranger Hughan reported favorably op the application of Mr A. J. Smyth for a sawmill license at Gatlin's River. Mr Doughty appeared for applicant, and lodged an objection against two applications to purchase previously lodged. Postponed. Messrs Dugald Sinclair and Robert Glenn applittd to purchase lands occupied by them at •aseby. Postponed. Mr Philip Oakden applied to purchase 615 acres, 1 rood, 10 poles of land in exercise of his pre emptive right, run No, 78 8., being sections 22 to 25, block 3, Waip&bee. Mr Haggit appeared for applicant. The Board considered the right h*d been exercised before the run was divided, Mr Haggitt contending that even if such were the case, after a division each part bad a pre-emptive right. Ihe Board eventually found that the Act was in favor of applicant’s view of the case, and unwillingly granted the application. Mr Rossbotham’s application was considered to purchase a piece of land between the road line and the Leith in block 5, Dunedin and East Taieri. Declined, to be kept as a public reserve. Mr Hugh M‘lntyre objected to the sale of that part of his run No. 168, between the east and West branches of the Waikoikoi Stream- .Postponed for a month, to allow of notice to atfond fading served on Messrs MMntyre and M'KefiriW, Mr John Fleming applied to purchase section 18, block 3, Cromwell, being 'SO adres on run iSo, ?45. To be advertised’and surveyed. Mr John M‘Bride npplfod Purchase section 7, Upper Wakatip. being 2s? acres, or run No. 417- To be advertised aud surveyed. Mr George Munro applied to purchase sections 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 17 and 18, block 3, Tuapeka East, formerly held under agricultural lease. Granted, to be sold under clause 73. Mr John Marsh applied to purchase s*ction 1, Wakefield, held under agricultural lease ; the lease had lapsed for three days prior to the application. Granted, to be sold under clause 73. Mr John Michael applied to purchase sections 7 and 8, block 6, Tuapeka West, held ppcler agricultural lease; and also section 55, Jdqck <fo, £° complete his property under clause 40. Approved. Mr P,eter Cpok applied id puVchase (section 4, block 10. Waiiffonua Eagt, held under lease. ApprovedThe following applications fop exchange of leases under clause 63 were approved A. M ‘Corkmdale, sections 7 and 9, block 4, Waitahuna East; sections 6 and 50, blook 6, do; and Mr John M‘Allister, section 23, block 7, do. The Provincial Solicitor sent a memo, relative to the case of Mr A. M'Lean, as to the validity of certain peaepyes, sent to the judge for his opinion. It stated that the Judge expressed surprise at the unprofes, sional manner in which the case baa been prepared, and requested that it bo stated in the proper form. The Chief Commissioner said the usual routine had been adhered to. Messrs Stewart and Joyce moved that the petition of certain residents of St. Bathans be entertained, and that the land referred to in such petition be offered for sale. The petition was received, and the question postponed for inquiry. Mr D. Bapuatyno applied for a license to occupy section 1, bjopk 6, Waikeuaiti. Granted at LI per annum.
