Christchurch, October 17. The Punjaub’s immigrants continue to im* prove in health. There are twenty-six cases now in the hospital, only one of which is dangerous. Thirteen are convalescent. There is a little more inquiry for wheat for English shipments. Prices unaltered. Flour, dull. 1,000 bags of oats were shipped to Wellington during the week, but they are still dull. Holders are anxious to clear out stock at quotations. Wellington, October 17. A proclamation announces that the mission of messages originating in the Cqloqy of Victoria, by post, to New Zealand, wifi be free of postage. The Basilisk,'with the Governor on board, sails on Wednesday. October 18. The Manawatu (steamer) is reported to be well upon the beach at Manawatu river. She was attempting to follow the Napier in, Wanganui, October 18. The boating season opens with a procw* sion to*day.

Te Kooti expressed himself anxious for peace, but aon e of his followers declared that in case the Government did not agree to their terms, which they would soon offer, they would be prepared to fight. Tauranoa, October 18. There is considerable excitement over the Provincial election nomination. Native matters are quiet. The Fish Curing Company have commenced operations.
