A BOAT SHED.

To the Editor. Sir,—One great obstacle in the way of boat racing in Dunedin harbor is the utcer absence of any. accommodation for boats Not only are there no sheds available for keeping boats in, but there is absolutely no place along our water-line where such places could be erected, by reason of the shallowness of the water. This must formidably operate against rowing, which just now seems to have received new impetus; and the sooner our boating men put their heads together and remedy the evil the better. A shed on land is out of the question, as boats could not be launched from them except at high water; but if a floating shed of suitable size were constructed and moored in a convenient place, I believe it would answer the purpose, and, instead of a loss, be a source of revenue to the proprietors. It would also bo a great boon to the public if the Government could be prevailed upon to grant a site at high-water mark for a gridiron, where boats could be hauled up for repairs, &c., as the one at the head of the old jetty will soon be left a hundred yards or so inshore if the reclaiming goes on much

longer. It is only by attention to these matters that we shall ever be able to compete with other places in this healthful exercise.—l am, &c., Stroke. Dunedin, October 14.
