The amount of revenue received at the Custom -bonne on poods cleared for consumption this day, was LlO2 os Oil. Taking into consideration the Very unsettled ■weather during the past week, and the previous almost impassable condition of up-country roads, few will be prepared to expect that the demand for goods has been brisk for consumption. It will excite no surprise, therefore, that trade has been limited to city and suburban requirements. The season has, however, so far advanced that the roads must necessarily become passable, and as stocks are becoming rapidly exhausted in the interior, increased transactions must result. The only important sale of the week was one of tobacco by Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn and Co. It was a mixed parcel, part of it being sold with all faults, while that which was not reputed damaged was withdrawn through no bidder offering the reserve price, blight cases of Lyons 12s realised 9}d per lb ; three cases 12a, sold by sample, fetched Is ; and six .f tierces of Triumph Twist, sampled, wore sold for Is 2.jd per lb ; seven tmses Childers’s pocket-pieces were sold at lOd. Two vessels from Mauritius with sugar a,re rejtortad this week, and sample bags of the cargo of the Margarita arc on show. They are in remarkably good order. The sugar seems well assorted, bright, strong, and of very good grocery Quality. The cargo will be offered nt auction by Messrs M'Landrcss, Hepburn, and Co,, on Monday. Amongst the many arrivals during the week is the Gemshok, from New York, with a general cargo. Wo incidentally mentioned last week that she was expected shortly to arrive. Her cargo will opportunely supply several descriptions of goods that wore running short. In spirits there is not much to report. Brandy, since tlm arrival of the Albion, is held for higher prices. It has been much inquired for during the week, and nominally stood at 8s 3d for Hennessy’s, and 31s (id in case. At those prices, however, no heavy pales were made. A sale of Associated Vineyards was made at 7s lid, and a shipment of 45 quarter-casks of bisquets, Hubouche and Co’s was placed, but the price has not tram Wired, Since the arrival ot the Albion, in con-
sequence of the prices ruling m Melbourne, brandy is held for a considerable advance, but we are not aware that any parcels have yet changed hands. Geneva is still m short supp y, but the arrival of a few shipments by the Bebington will, to some extent, meet demand. Quotations remain at 13s fid to 13s .Id. Beer is unaltered. Bulk and bottled ale is scarcely obtainable, no arrivals having taken place. In oilmen’s stores the market may be considered settled, and prices are steady. At auction, a parcel of Stow’s pickles was offered but did not find buyers. Kerosene may still be quoted at is 10d to Is 10W, although we notice that the prica has advanced in Melbourne, In breadatuffs there is no change to notice. For flour the demand is at present rather slack, hut quotations continue unaltered. For best brands, Ll2 10s (in sacks), and Ll3 (in bags) is the value. Second-class flour has a model ate sale at LlO to Lll. Oatmeal is dull at L 24. For pearl barley there is not much inquiry. Bran has been in bad supply until within the last few days, when several lota were landed from Oainaru. Pollard, Ln. Barley dust,l j5. For wheat the inquiry has not of late been brisk. Holders of prime samples are, however, unwilling to quit, unless at fuller rates, especially as the value has increased in Australia. Good sorts are worth os 3d to 5s fid. Secondclass wheat meets with a fair sale at Is Gd to 4s lOd. Fowl wheat is scarce. Oats have not improved. There is at present no demand from the Northern Ports, and this has caused a dullness in our market. Quotations are at 4s 3d to 4s Gd. For barley there is but little sale. Malting may bo quoted at 7s, and inferior at 5s 9d. 0 . A. Mercer reports for the week ending 27th September.
